Sully Village Group are a small group of residents in Sully, Vale of Glamorgan who got together in April 2019 with the aim of organising an event in the village that would appeal to all ages and bring the community together. That first free event, sparked by a residents suggestion, was Sullyfest Pirate Day 2019. The success of Sullyfest, the level of support we received from our community, businesses and the wider community, spurred us on to organise further community events. Following straight on from Sullyfest we organised a community beach clean and a Christmas Sullyfair.
The members of the Sully Village Group committee are:
Hannah and Sarah – Co Chair
Ghadir – Treasurer
Nicky – Secretary
Louise – Marketing & Promotions
The Sully Village Group are a ‘not for profit’ community group and are all volunteers. Money raised through SVG events goes back into the pot and put towards future events. We may also use SVG funds to support other community groups or charities based in the village. In 2019, we were able to give £150 to the Sully Community Library and also sponsor one of the village Christmas Trees.
SVG were awarded the Millennium Shield for 2019 by the Sully & Lavernock Community Council for outstanding contribution to village life.
The plan for 2020 and moving forward is to organise a free Sullyfest every September, an Easter Sullyfair, Christmas Sullyfair and twice yearly beach cleans in spring and autumn. From the beginning we have been keen to involve other groups in the village. To date we have worked with the Sully Sports & Social Club, Sully Primary School PTA, 1st Sully Scouts, 1st Sully Brownies, St John the Baptist Church, Sully Indoor Bowling Club and Our Future Community (OFC)
